Choose your canoe trip on the Dordogne

Opt for a light UV-resistant T-shirt and then put on a swimming costume and shorts. Don't forget a hat or cap and the unavoidable element, sunglasses. But be prepared and remember to tie them up with a cord.

The person leading the canoe is always at the back, then the 2nd person must be at the front.
If there are more than two people in the canoe, the third person is in the middle (the lightest of the three).
If there are children in the canoe, they should be in the middle side by side (between 5 and 12 years old).
To make it simple, at the back we order, in the middle it's the holidays and in front we take the pictures 😉

Level 4 to 5 kayakers, red to black paddling, are used to paddling 6 hours a day, at a speed of 3.5 to 4 knots, covering distances of 21 to 24 nautical miles in their day, with one or more breaks

In a kayak you sit in a rotomoulded seat, with your legs stretched out and slightly bent and your feet placed in foot rests.
In a touring canoe you sit on a bench, but in our case it's a canoe with a comfortable backrest 😉

Closed shoes must be worn (prefectural decree of 4 May 1995).

Canoeing requires the ability to swim 25 metres and to immerse oneself. Children can only take part in this activity from the age of 5 (prefectural decree of 4 May 1995)

The canoe is steered from the back

To go straight ahead, paddle as close as possible to the boat, otherwise you risk going round in circles. And to turn: in a single-seater kayak, paddle on the opposite side of the boat to the one you want to go to.

The person practising canoeing is called a "canoeist" or sometimes a "kayaker".
